This September 22nd, we are proud to present a 10 Year Anniversary Listening Session of the 2016 album ‘Blonde’ by Frank Ocean. Inspired by a photograph by iconic photographer Wolfgang Tillmans. A picture of a girl wearing a seatbelt, covering her face. He drew a lot from this image, and it even landed in the accompanying ‘Boys Don’t Cry’ zine that released alongside 'Blonde'. He talked about picturing himself in the girl’s position, feeling claustrophobic because of the seatbelt, and wiggling back and forth to free himself. Throughout Blonde, Frank is freeing himself from several things. He’s freeing himself from the expectations placed on him, freeing himself from sexual stereotypes, from heartbreak and, in a literal sense, he’s freeing himself from a record label. We will be playing ‘Endless’ prior to ‘Blonde’ in it’s entirety on our Projector & Hi-Fi Sound System at homebase Dolores LB. Following with a full front-to-back album listening session of ‘Blonde’ at the peak of the evening on our Hi-Fi sound system. Blonde combines R&B, Soul, Hip-Hop, Ambient, Electronic, and Experimental. Drawing inspiration from artists such as The Beach Boys, Prince, Brian Eno, The Beatles & Stevie Wonder to name a few. Breaking the barriers of genre, Influencing a generation. We will also feature all-vinyl DJ sets by Que Madre, Bles & Diego the originators of ‘Nostalgia’ out in LA.
