BASEMENT, New York

Lady Starlight returns to headline BASEMENT with a live set. An avowed hardware enthusiast for well over a decade, Lady Starlight’s live sets are thrilling, masterful rides that harness the full power of her machines. Her work has found release on some of the most esteemed imprints in techno today: Stroboscopic Artefacts, Figure, Tresor, and A-Ton, the Ostgut Ton sublabel, and her collaborators include Surgeon and Luke Slater. And yet, with all these bonafides, Starlight still stands apart, working in her own lane. “I don’t really know what techno is sometimes,” she once commented. “You have to not look around, just focus on what you want to do and your own sound. And make up your own game that only you can win.” Amotik, one of the modern maestros of penetrating, immersive techno, joins. The UK-born, Berlin-based based has dialed his sound to a perfectly focused iteration of the timeless, sci-fi informed sound pioneered in Detroit. Synths bleep like radar across vast chasms of emptiness, wide-open pads suggest a receding horizon, and carefully tuned drum machines push the mix deeper and deeper past the night. In his releases as well as as his label curation on his eponymous label, Amotik articulates a form of techno that is simultaneously precision tooled and primordial. Nymph makes her debut. Part of a new crop of NY artists who are defining the next era of NY techno, Nymph weaves between elastic grooves, haunting atmospheres and thick, miasmic low end. Courtesy makes her debut in STUDIO. One of the key artists of the last decade, Courtesy has blazed a blinding trail across the electronic music landscape. First emerging as part of Copenhagen’s all-femme Apeiron Crew, Courtesy quickly became a leading figure in her hometown’s game-changing, high-BPM electronic revival with the co-founding of her Ectotherm label alongside Mama Snake. This was followed by the even-more influential Kulør imprint, which further advanced Courtesy’s standout explorations into radical retro-futurism. A force since day one, Courtesy’s sets showed a strong interest in the bright, emotive melodies and driving, coursing rhythms of trance. But she was never a genre revivalist; throughout her career, she has explored the hidden qualities and fascinating subtexts of her influences. Recently, she launched a third venture, Against Interpretation, where she has released her own solo work. Records like “intimate yell” and “Dance Review Vol 1” are incisively astute reimaginings of ‘90s eurodance and downtempo pop. Meilgaarden is an artist whose work shows a familial resonance with Courtesy’s. The Swedish-born DJ’s sets exude a certain Scandinavian sensibility, with deep, grooving basslines, pristine minimalism, ethereal textures and a chilled atmosphere that reflects the stark sensuality of the landscape. Giovannii makes his debut. The artist formerly known as Perfect Health is an unmissable face in the city’s queer underground - their Tossd party series, organized alongside Will Jack, has evolved into a beloved hub. ■ No photos or videos ■ Ticket purchase does not guarantee entrance ■ No phone use on the dancefloor ■ The dance floor is for dancing, not conversation ■ No glowing/flashing clothes or items ■ Respect other people's space, no shuffling ■ Consent is mandatory ■ Zero tolerance for racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, ableism or any form of discrimination ■ Take care of each other, alert our staff if somebody isn't feeling well ■ Violating the house rules will result in removal PLEASE REVIEW HOUSE POLICIES AT LINK BELOW
