
MUSIC + FOOD + MEMORY + ARCHIVES DEEP CUTS is a one-night gathering celebrating NEW WAVE documentary arriving on The Criterion Channel with DJs, archival film, live storytelling, food, zines, artists + community along the L.A. River. At the center of the night is a live immersive listening session created by filmmaker Elizabeth Ai and journalist Samanta Helou Hernandez. Elizabeth shares a personal, six-chapter story about growing up in the ’90s in the SGV through music, archival photos, memory, conversation + taste. It’s an experiment in multisensory storytelling, inviting everyone in the room to listen, taste, remember, and bring their own associations to the story. Felix Fang and Jess Wang of Double Joy / Gu Grocery along with Vi Nguyen of Pandan Lady, have created six tastes that unfold alongside Elizabeth’s six chapters. Each course responds to a different chapter through flavor, memory, place, and time. The food works like another soundtrack, a sensory way into memory.
