Pioneering post-punk band and former 4AD recording artists The Wolfgang Press return to play live in Berlin for the first time in 31 years, continuing their 21st-century revival, which started two years ago. Their new album, Asylum Variations, is due September 25th on Downwards Records, following 2024’s A 2nd Shape – their first album in almost three decades. The band will perform in their new incarnation, with founding members Michael Allen and Andrew Gray joined by Gray’s brother Stephen Gray, who replaces original keyboardist Mark Cox. Sharing this special double-headliner gig are Downwards labelmates A Southern Code, who also have a forthcoming album, slated for October 2026. Formerly known as EROS, this international experimental project, which made a splash at the 2023 edition of the Berlin Atonal festival, features Downwards owner Karl O’Connor (Regis), Liam Andrews (My Disco) and Boris Wilsdorf, who is Einstürzende Neubauten’s longtime sound engineer and the owner of the andereBaustelle recording studio in Berlin. Two distinct fusions of post-punk and experimental electronic music come together for one exceptional evening at Neue Zukunft, one of Berlin’s newest and most distinctive indie clubs, renowned for its clear and powerful sound.
