For more than three decades, Rick Wilhite has been an essential figure in Detroit’s underground. A DJ, producer, record dealer and lifelong student of music, his story runs through some of the city’s most important musical institutions and relationships. He is a member of the legendary Three Chairs alongside Theo Parrish, Kenny Dixon Jr. (Moodymann) and Marcellus Pittman — four artists whose raw, soulful and uncompromising approach helped define a particular strain of Detroit house music. But Rick’s influence extends far beyond his own records. Through Vibes New & Rare Music, his Detroit record store and later compilation series, Wilhite became a trusted source for DJs, collectors and producers searching for music outside the obvious. His ear has always crossed boundaries — deep house, disco, soul, funk, techno, jazz, rare grooves and everything between. That same philosophy defines a Rick Wilhite DJ set.
