PRESSURE x SOMA 35 On Sunday December 27th we are throwing a special Pressure party to celebrate 35 years of Soma Records. Slam will bring their live set home after showcasing it in recent times at international bastions of the underground including Berghain & Houghton Festival. They will be joined by 2 Techno titans. We are extremely excited to welcome Detroit legend and innovator Robert Hood and one of the UK's finest exponents of the genre and fellow electronic luminary, Luke Slater. And we have 2 excellent Glasgow-based DJs getting together for an exclusive back to back to complete an exceptional lineup. Stevie Cox, the Subculture resident and a talented producer, and LAZLO, who is resident at Animal Farm, play together for the very first time! And where better to have the birthday party than the city where it all began! Founded in 1991, the Glasgow-based Soma label is an institution. With a reputation for quality and longevity, the imprint has played a foundational role in the development of Techno, and in the discovery and support of exceptional musical talent. After 35 years, the label continues to operate at the centre of the genre, pushing a modern sound that has always been at the core of Soma’s ethos. Celebrating its truly vital and enduring presence in the global Techno landscape, Soma Records’ 35 Year anniversary project has been brought to life through a series of specially-curated remix EPs. Showcasing the breath of Soma’s reach across the scene past and present, the SOMA35 EP project brings together a selection of the biggest names in Techno, alongside newer artists whose sound naturally aligns with the label’s distinct sonic identity. As Slam explain: “Soma was born out of a need to create a platform for our own productions. Starting an independent label felt like the natural progression. We had all grown up listening to post-punk during our formative years, when independent labels such as Factory Records in Manchester and Postcard Records in Glasgow played a hugely influential role, alongside many others throughout the UK. At that time, there was little representation from the independent scene for electronic music in the UK. We were drawn to the raw aesthetic and DIY ethos of labels emerging from the US, particularly from Detroit and Chicago. It therefore felt natural to channel that spirit into our own vision for Soma Records. As the label began to make an impact, we were approached by producers from around the world who wanted to become part of that vision as well.”
