Shaking is a task-based somatic practice, wherein the prompt is to shake, nonstop, for a set amount of time. What it looks and feels like is completely variable and completely up to you. In this special class we will first shake for the duration of hour and then follow it up with a slow flow that prioritizes breath, rest, and integration of whatever the shake brings up and out. **** Bring comfortable layers, anything that helps you move through and modulate between and alongside the two physical modalities. My aim is that by setting these perhaps at first glance disparate practices against each other will actually reveal them to be quite complementary, different avenues towards the same thing: ways to find more ease, ways to hit "reset." ****************** Will Farris is a poet, arts administrator, and yoga teacher living in Brooklyn. With training in Katonah, vinyasa, and restorative yoga and a rigorous personal practice that engages Hatha, Ashtanga, and Meridian Yoga modalities, they offer a unique, post-lineage approach to yoga pedagogy, striking a challenging but approachable balance between effort, discipline, grace, and play. Will’s hope is that students leave their classes feeling more in-tune with themselves, with each other, and with the world around them, and come to a more integrated and sustainable understanding of how their body moves through and responds to time and space. Will endeavors to teach and embody the practical tools of yoga so that their students can more easefully experience both the profound ordinariness and deeply surprising magic of everyday living and living every day.
