OCTOBER 31 | Tijana T embarks on an extended set journey, with intro by Karmakoma's novice, mdngt. What makes one conquer the stages of the world in practically non-existent conditions and with some extra interest in the 303 squelch? Tijana T was earning her raving ranks and badges in Yugoslavia in the '90s, and Yugoslavia in the '90s was a battleground in every possible sense. Now a decade into her mandate as the loudest diplomat of Belgrade nightlife, there’s a lot that came before, and it’s a story of running the extra mile. Throughout her career, Tijana had used her journalistic experience to paint a picture of Belgrade’s dance floors in the nineties for people around the world to understand what it truly means to save your life and sanity raving. Nightclubs, she always points out, are not places of superficial entertainment but safe houses, battlefields, places of refuge, tribal tents. Now, in times when the rest of the world is on fire, her insistence on the matter seems more relevant than ever before. Safety, dancing as an act of resistance, she was pointing it out before anyone thought of asking the questions. Even before she entered the world of TV and radio hosting, the young Belgrader had mastered the pop scene, knew her producers inside out, and connected the underground with the mainstream, relying on the insight of someone who had lived it firsthand. Her uncle, a role model and tastemaker, guided her early discoveries, opening doors to acts like Einstürzende Neubauten and beyond. This broad musical range is her not-so-secret weapon in the booth, as she surprises dancers with forgotten ‘90s gems between waves of techno from both centuries. More than that, Tijana is known for her unwavering connection to the crowd, making you feel like the only guest at her party. Not everyone can radiate that kind of presence from the booth and invite the dancer to contribute to her set. The DJing came naturally, and in baby steps. From taking on Mondays and making them into nights for going out, to cutting teeth at all-nighters on the Sava river, cementing her ambition as a techno DJ and resident of Drugstore, and even throwing herself in the fire by accompanying legend Abe Duque onstage as a vocalist. A couple of Boiler Rooms later, no one even thought of the hours put in to master all these aspects of rave culture, seduced by the hair flips. Now touring worldwide regularly for the 10th year in a row, Tijana has tested her might before dancers of Berghain/Panoramabar, Bassiani, Khidi, EXIT's overwhelming Dance Arena, Tomorrowland, Dystopian, or Afterlife. And she'll make it work for attendees of the Belgrade heaven, Dim, with the same spunk as for the Printworks crowd. PRESALE on Gigstix and Resident Advisor.
