SPANDAU20, an imprint named after the Western Berlin district and focused on artists from the area, delivers techno in all its diverse forms: from warehouse and electronic peak-time beats to breaks and IDM, balancing old- and new-school sounds flawlessly, with a special focus on vinyl releases for collectors. The SPANDAU20 label night on 18 September features the label’s founders, the electrifying hardware duo Felix Wagner and Aaron Röbig, collectively known as FJAAK, delivering relentless, analogue-fuelled techno infused with UK garage, dub, and hardcore influences. A visionary artist, founder of BPitch Control and UFO Inc. labels, and the We Are Not Alone party series, Ellen Allien is a defining figure in Berlin techno culture. Emerging from Berlin’s post-Wall underground in the early 1990s, she became closely connected to clubs such as Tresor and E-Werk. Her visions, reflected on numerous albums, singles, and EPs, have been highly influential across subcultures in electronic music, art, design, and fashion. Berlin-based producer, DJ, sound engineer, and classically trained musician Dajusch, whose sound is deeply rooted in the pioneering traditions of Detroit and Chicago, has released on imprints such as CROWD and Patent. Enigmatic HVL returns to Horoom with long-standing collaborators and wide-ranging selectors Dito, Kvanchi, and Mancho for a very special back-to-back session. Alongside them is Parallel Minds cofounder Ciel, a Xi’an-born and Toronto-based DJ, pianist, and radio programmer, whose sets move through dreamy downtempo, wiggly tech house, psychedelic techno, UK bass, and slamming speed garage of dancefloors and moods, from deep and trippy to unabashedly euphoric. An outspoken advocate for equity and social justice in electronic music, her values are inextricable from her work as a producer, DJ, label boss, and radio host. Ciel's performance is co-presented by MUTEK, with the support of the Canada Council for the Arts.
