Night 6 of Minaret Winter Jazz Festival features a performance by Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra, the multigenerational Los Angeles ensemble founded in 1961 by pianist & composer Horace Tapscott. P.A.P.A has spent more than six decades cultivating a tradition of collective music-making rooted in community, social consciousness, and Afrikan culture. The evening also includes *The Ark in Conversation: Jazz & Black Poetry*, a panel led by Samuel Lamontagne & Harmony Holiday. ~ Minaret is an independent jazz label and event series based in Los Angeles, founded by Egyptian-American artist Yousef Hilmy in late 2019. Symbolized from the Arabic منارة (lighthouse, source of light), we use an open source approach to publish creative music, produce concerts in LA + beyond, foster community/collaboration, and connect progressive art practices to the public.
