The Thornbury Theatre is celebrating its 100th anniversary with an incredible night of music on Saturday October 31st. Presented by Yours & Owls, the anniversary show brings together Acopia, EXEK, Wet Kiss, Media Puzzle, Twine, Blue Communications and Supernew for a lineup that reflects the venue’s current place in Melbourne’s renowned live music scene. The celebration comes as the theatre enjoys an incredible run of live shows, including four sold-out nights with Australian icons The Drones. International artists like John Maus, Cass McCombs, Cola and have also hit the Thornbury stage this year, with plenty more still to come just in October with New Zealand’s Princess Chelsea bringing her Australian debut tour to the theatre this Saturday, followed by Mudhoney and Spike Fuck later in the month. Originally opened in the 1920s as a picture theatre, the building later became a ballroom and reception venue before taking on its present life as a contemporary performance space. Its ornate plasterwork and grand marble staircase remain, while locals’ memories of films and Macedonian dances inside its walls now sit alongside memories of sit alongside world class entertainment and live music. We’re excited to celebrate a venue that has played a rich part in Melbourne’s live music history and is still thriving, bringing local artists, touring acts and their audiences together under one roof.
