For twelve unforgettable years, I had the extraordinary privilege of touring the world and sharing the stage with the one and only Ginger Baker. To the world, Ginger was a drumming legend and a pioneer who redefined what could be achieved behind a drum kit. To me, however, he was so much more. He was a father figure, a dear friend, a wise mentor and my greatest teacher. He was someone I trusted deeply, and we shared a bond that went far beyond words. Our connection grew stronger with every day we spent together. Over more than a decade on the road, travelling across countless countries and performing on stages around the world, we built a relationship rooted in deep respect, loyalty and a shared love of rhythm. Because of the difference in our ages and the wisdom he shared with me, Ginger naturally became like a father. He guided me, encouraged me and showed me the way, not only in music but in life. The world will always remember Ginger Baker as an icon and a master whose energy, creativity and spirit changed music forever. I will remember him as the father figure I looked up to, the friend I could always turn to and the teacher who helped shape my life. It is my greatest honour to celebrate his life, his music and the remarkable legacy he left behind. Every time I sit behind the drums, I feel his presence, and I play in his honour. He may be gone, but his rhythm, wisdom and love live on in every beat.
