Closer returns to KAGURANE in Kagurazaka for its fifth edition, bringing together live acts operating across hip-hop, noise, industrial music and experimental electronics. Organized by Tokyo-based artists ΣKIYM and Selfless Service, Closer has explored the intersections of bass music and experimental sound since its launch in November 2024, bringing artists from different scenes together through a live-focused, cross-genre programme. For Vol.5, the connection between hip-hop and experimental electronic music comes into sharper focus. The live programme features Koutou-Yumin Dakota (口頭遊民ダコタ), a fluid hip-hop collective that draws from a wide range of cultural influences and released its second album Konsen-sasu in May 2026. Taro Aiko [M.A.S.F.], a former member of extreme noise band ENDON and developer of the M.A.S.F. audio brand, performs with self-built oscillators, effects and modular synthesis. Kold Storage brings together Seoul-based producer ST Kim and Tokyo industrial project Selfless Service, while ΣKIYM × chamois combines cinematic electronic production and heavy low-end with the rap of Genius P.J’s member chamois. arata yamamoto joins the lineup on DJ duties. From hip-hop and bass-driven production to noise, industrial textures and electronic experimentation, Closer Vol.5 brings distinct approaches into direct contact through KAGURANE’s sound system.
